In the story, “A Day’s Wait” a nine year old boy is in bed really ill because he has the bad case of the flu. The little boy has to stay in bed for a few days because his fever is 102° and that’s what the doctor told him to do. He is getting scared because he heard that in France you could die with a fever of 44° and he is scared because he has a fever of 102°, but he isn’t going to die because that is just because their thermometers in France their thermometers are different. “A Day’s Wait” is about a little boy who has to wait to see if he can get better, and not let anything get to his head.
To start off, “A Day’s Wait” the mode of the story would be irony because it starts off with the little boy who gets really ill. Next there is a major conflict, where the little boys doctor goes to his house and gives him some medicine and says it will work, but it doesn’t. His fever stays really high for a long time, and then they call the doctor to their house again, and gives him this new medicine. But the medicine still doesn’t really work, so it looks like the little boy is going to stay really sick for a while until he can get better on his own. In the end, the little boy stays sick and doesn’t really get better, he is going to have to stay like that until he does.
In addition, the lesson of the story “A Day’s Wait” would be that the little boy has a bad case of the flu and he doesn’t know what to do, so him and his family call in a doctor to see what’s the matter. Turns out that he has the flu and his doctor gives him some medicine and hopes that will help with his high fever and sickness. But after a few days on being on the medicine, they need to call the doctor in again because he is having the same temperature and it’s not going down. In the end, the boy thinks that he is going to die because he has a really high fever and heard a myth that he could die if his fever is over 44°. The lesson of the story would be that “ don’t let anything or anyone get to you unless you know that their true, always be truthful to yourself and believe what you want to believe”.
Lastly, the characters in the story are the main people in the story because they make the story come alive and seem real. One of the main characters in the story would be the little boy who is really ill and doesn’t think that he will get better. The little boy thinks that he is going to die because his temperature is too high and is really scared about it. Another one of the main characters would be the doctor because he is the one taking care of the little boy who is very ill. He is also trying to get this boy better and on medicine before anyone else gets very sick.
In conclusion, the little boy stayed sick and his fever stayed really high. He was hoping that he would get better really soon and be able to get to do the stuff that he always loved to do. Would you want to be like the doctor and get the little boy who is really sick back to good health?

Sammantha,
ReplyDeleteConsider the possibility that this young man wants to go fishing instead of attending school. In fact, he wants to go fishing so badly that he convinces himself that he is ill! Our minds can play tricks on us! In the beginning of the story the author writes "all children are actors." How would this change your writing?
